Community tip: Most Indian restaurants in Japan serve "Indian-Japanese" adapted menus with spice levels adjusted for Japanese palates. Ask specifically for "Indian spice level" if you want it authentic. Many chefs are happy to oblige!

Dhaba India near Tokyo Station is my go-to for homesick days. The sambar tastes just like home and the masala dosa is crispy perfect. Slightly pricey but 100% worth it. They also stock a few South Indian snacks to take home. Staff speaks Hindi and Tamil!

Taj Mahal Osaka has been consistent for years. The butter chicken is adapted for Japanese tastes (less spicy) but ask for "spicy" and they'll adjust. Portions are decent. Great for impressing Japanese friends who want to try Indian food for the first time.
