📖 Celebrating Holi in Japan — A Guide

Holi in Japan is one of the most fun festivals for foreigners — it is open, colorful, and welcoming. Here is how to prepare:

What to Wear for Holi in Japan

Wear white clothes you are happy to throw away afterward. Old t-shirts and jeans work best. Bring a change of clothes and a plastic bag for afterward. Some events sell cheap white t-shirts on-site.

Where to Buy Holi Colors in Japan

Color powder: Most community events include colors in the entry fee. You can also buy organic gulal at Indian grocery stores in Shin-Okubo (Tokyo) and Nipponbashi (Osaka) from February onward.

Holi Etiquette in Public Parks

Respect park rules: Only use colors in designated event zones. Do not throw powder at people who are not participating. Clean up after yourself — organizers provide bins but bring a small towel.
